Box Score 2 Mahawh, NJ—The #19/21 Ramapo College Baseball team split Saturday's NJAC doubleheader with Rutgers-Camden, as the Scarlet Raptors took the first game, 5-3 while the Roadrunners won the nightcap, 12-0 at Jeff Maud Field.
Game One
The winning pitcher for Rutgers-Camden was Adam Satanoff, who improved to 9-2 on the season pitching the final four innings of the game, letting up one hit. Starting pitcher John Griffin went five inning allowing five hits and three runs.
Ramapo's
Kyle Doerr, the second of three pitchers for the Roadrunners, was credited with the loss, falling to 2-2 on the season, pitching 2.1 innings letting up four hits and two runs. Starting pitcher
Jimmy Knight pitched the first six innings allowing five hits and three runs.
Designated hitter Connar Hall finished 2-for-3 for Rutgers-Camden and four different Scarlet Raptors each registered a hit in the victory.
Ramapo's
Dave Jacob went 3-for-4 with two runs and one run batted in while
Chris Werr, Ryan Rinksy and
Kevin Case each had one hit apiece.
Rutgers-Camden scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Ramapo took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Dave Jacob drove in the first run on an RBI single up the middle, scoring
Joe Venturino, who led off the inning with a walk and
Christian Spurr drove in the second run on a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Jacob.
The Roadrunners added another run in the bottom of the fifth on RBI single to leftfield by
Chris Werr, scoring Jacob from second. Jacob reached base on a single up the middle and then stole second, his third of the game.
With two outs in the top of the sixth inning for Rutgers-Camden, Connor Hall started the rally reaching first on a walk and Shaun Collins hit a double down the left field line putting runners in scoring position for Donnie Haines, who reached base on an error by the Roadrunners, scoring two runs for the Scarlet Raptors and tying the game at 3-3.
Ramapo reliever
Kyle Doerr, who entered the game in the middle of the seventh, shut down the final three Scarlet Raptors with runners on the corner threatening to break the 3-3 tie.
Rutgers-Camden broke the 3-3 tie in the top of the eighth scoring two runs for a 5-3 lead.
Game 2
The winning pitcher in game two went to Ramapo's Frank Baldino, who pitched his first complete game of the season improving to 2-2 on the season. Baldino gave up only three hits and fanned seven Scarlet Raptors in the victory.
Rutgers-Camden's Tommy Potts was credited with the loss falling to 3-4 on the season pitching 1.2 innings letting up six hit and five runs.
Christian Spurr finished the second game 1-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored while Berger went 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Policastro, who entered the game as a pinch hitter for the Roadrunners went 2-for-2 with two RBI and
Kevin Case and
Chris Werr each drove in a run in the victory.
Three different Scarlet Raptors registered hits in the loss – Albert Rivera, Dave Prager and pinch hitter George Spingler.
Ramapo got on the board early in the bottom of the first taking a 4-0 lead. Spurr doubled down the left field line scoring two Roadrunners while Werr and Jacobs each registered an RBI in the inning.
The Roadrunners added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, two coming on a double to right field by pinch hitter
Rich Policastro and RBI by Berger for a 10-0 lead.
Ramapo added a run in the seventh and eighth inning to take the nightcap, 12-0.
The Roadrunners will return to action on Sunday at 1pm against Neumann at Jeff Maund Field. Sunday will be Senior Day for ten graduating Roadrunners.
