RAMAPO FALLS TO NJCU IN NJAC BASEBALL ACTION

Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The #19/21 Ramapo College baseball team fell to NJAC foe New Jersey City University today at Jeff Maund Field, 3-1. The Roadrunners now stand at 24-9-1 overall and 8-7-1 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights improve to 17-19 overall and 5-11 in the conference.

Christian Spurr led off the bottom of the fourth with a double to left field before moving to third on a sac bunt from Chris Werr. Spurr would later score on Brandon Berger's sac fly to right field, 1-0.

In the top of the sixth, NJCU scored two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead. Andrew Niech singled through the left side of the infield as Mike Martucci scored before Andrew Weinstein singled down the right field line, driving home Peter Senyszn.

Ramapo had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Dave Jacob was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before stealing second base with no outs. The Gothic Knights recorded a fly out to center field and a foul out to first base before Jacob advanced to third on a wild pitch. Relief pitcher Nick DeMarco induced a ground out to third base to end the threat and hold the 2-1 lead for NJCU.

The Roadrunners would strand a runner at third base again in the eighth when relief pitcher Delio Coutinho got a ground out and fly out to right field to end the inning with the 2-1 lead. NJCU added to their lead with a run in the top of the ninth when Andrew Rivera drove home Martucci from second base with a single down the left field line to take a 3-1 lead. Ramapo once again put runners in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth to tie or possibly take the lead, but NJCU shut the door to come away with the 3-1 road win.

Dan LaRocca took the loss for the Roadrunners falling to 3-4 overall. He struck out six over eight innings of work while surrendering six hits and two runs, both unearned.  John Capuano, Berger and Spurr each collected two hits for Ramapo.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at 11:30 when they host NJAC rival Rutgers-Camden University in the final NJAC regular season games of the season.
