Box Score Jersey City, NJ: The #19/21 Ramapo College baseball team improved to 24-8-1 overall and 8-6-1 in the NJAC with a 6-2 road win over rival New Jersey City University. The Gothic Knights fall to 16-19 overall and 4-11 in the conference.
The Gothic Knights got on the board in the top of the first inning with one run. Mike Martucci singled up the middle to lead off the inning before later scoring on a Ramapo throwing error for a 1-0 lead.
The Roadrunners would come back to tie the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the fourth when
Chris Werr singled with one out before being sacrificed to second with a sac bunt from
Ryan Rinsky. With two outs and a two strike count,
Brandon Berger ripped a single to left center allowing Werr to come around and score to tie the game.
Ramapo took the lead for good in the fifth inning as they scored three runs on three hits, 4-1. Back to back singles from
Anthony Vinci and
Joe Venturino put runner's on first and second with no outs before
John Capuano's sac bunt was misplayed. The error allowed Vinci to come around to score before
Christian Spurr laced a single to center field, plating two runs.
The Roadrunners added single runs in the sixth and eighth innings, extending their lead to 6-1. The Gothic Knights added one run in the eighth but that is all Ramapo would allow as starting pitcher
Travis Zilg got out of a jam with a 4-6-3 double play to end the eighth.
Zilg earned the win, improving to 4-1 overall with five strikeouts over 8.0 innings of work. He scattered five hits while giving up two runs, one earned.
Kyle Doerr worked the ninth for the Roadrunners, striking out one while he did not surrender a hit.
Spurr led the team with two RBI as he went 2-5 while Venturino and Werr each collected two hits in the game.
The Roadrunners will host the Gothic Knights tomorrow afternoon at Jeff Maund Field at 3:30pm to complete the home-and-home series.
