ROADRUNNERS FALL TO COUGARS IN NJAC BASEBALL ACTION

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ:  The #14/20 Ramapo College baseball team fell to NJAC rival #2/3 Kean University today in a NJAC double header at Jeff Maund Field, 18-2 & 8-7.

The Cougars improve to 28-6 overall, 12-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners fall to 22-8-1 and 7-6-1 in the conference.

In game one, Kean took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Nick Ramagli scored on a pass ball before Sal Taormina drove in Joe O'Connor with the inning's second run.

The Roadrunners scored one run in the bottom of the inning when Kevin Kelly singled through the right side, allowing Chris Werr to score to come within one, 1-2. Kean added four runs on five hits in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead before they poured on nine runs on six hits in the fifth inning for a 15-1 lead.

Ramapo added their second run in the sixth inning. Brandon Berger ripped a double down the left field line as Werr came around to touch home plate, 2-15. The Cougars added three runs in the eighth inning, extending their lead to 18-2.

Frank Baldini took the loss for the Roadrunners falling to 2-1 on the year. He struck out four and walked two while giving up six runs (five earned).

In game two, Ramapo took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Berger drove home Werr with a single to left field. Werr ripped a double to deep left field earlier in the inning. Kean went ahead 3-1 in the top of the third before Ramapo came back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning for a 5-3 lead.

Back to back bunt singles from Zach Carroll and John Capuano put runners aboard for Dave Jacob who ripped a single to center field plating one run. Werr's infield ground out plated one more run before Berger drove home two RBI as Jacob and Christian Spurr scored.

In the top of the fourth, Kean took a 8-5 lead as they scored five runs on five hits. Ramapo came back to score two runs in the bottom of the eighth to come within one, 7-8. With two outs, Jacob walked and stole second before Spurr ripped a double to left field to drive in Jacob. Spurr advanced to third on a wild pitch before Werr doubled to left center field driving in the second run of the inning. The Cougars held the Roadrunners in the bottom of the ninth to earn the 8-7 win. Berger was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and following an out Kean induced a game ending double play to end the Ramapo come back.

Andy Lopez led the Cougars with three hits while five other Cougars each collected two hits a piece. Vinny Zanfordino (3-0) earned the win for Kean in 6.1 innings of relief. He struck out four and walked to while scattering five hits.

Kyle Doerr (2-1) picked up the loss for Ramapo, in 3.1 innings of work he gave up 11 hits and seven runs while he struck out two. Berger led the Roadrunners at the plate with two hits and three RBI while Werr collected two hits and two RBI..

The Roadrunners return to action on April 23 when they host Purchase College at 3:30pm at Jeff Maund Field.
