RINSKY, JACOB LEAD RAMAPO OVER RUTGERS-NEWARK

Box Score Newark, NJ:  The #14/20 Ramapo College baseball team defeated NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University, 6-3 today on the road at Riverfront Stadium. The Roadrunners improve to 22-6-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 8-24 overall and 3-9 in the NJAC.

Senior Travis Zilg improved to 3-1 on the mound in a complete game win. Zilg struck out two and walked to while he scattered five hits. Ramapo scored one run in the second inning when rookie Ryan Rinsky lined a single into center field that scored senior Christian Spurr for the 1-0 lead. In the top of the third, the Roadrunners added three runs to extend their lead to 4-0. Back to back walks to junior John Capuano and senior Dave Jacob put runner's at first and second. Rinsky then ripped a single down the left field line with two outs to plate two runs. Junior Brandon Berger then singled home sophomore Chris Werr with the inning's third run for a 4-0 lead.

Newark put one run each in the third and fourth innings to come within two, 4-2, before Ramapo scored two runs in the sixth, extending their lead, 6-2. With two outs and runner's on second and third Jacob ripped a single to center field allowing senior Anthony Vinci and rookie Joe Venturino to come around and score. Newark added one run in the sixth, 6-3, but that is as close as they would get as the Roadrunners and Zilg didn't allow a hit by the Scarlet Raiders in the last three innings.

Rinsky led the team with three RBI while Jacob added two RBI of his own. Rinsky and was the lone Roadrunner with a multi-hit game going 2-5.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow at Jeff Maund Field when they host NJAC rival and nationally ranked Kean University at 11:30am.
