Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The #14/20 Ramapo College baseball team fell to NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University today at Jeff Maund Field, 5-1. The Roadrunners now stand at 21-6-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders improve to 8-23 overall and 3-8 in the NJAC.
The Scarlet Raiders snapped the Roadrunners four game winning streak today as they scored single runs in five different innings. They went ahead, 1-0 in the top of the first inning when Vinny Troisi came around to score on a Ramapo error. In the third inning, the Scarlet Raiders added one run when Jimmy Napolitano scored on Mike Murry's single to right field, 2-0. The Scarlet Raiders added one run in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead before Ramapo scored in the bottom half of the inning.
John Capuano reached on a fielder's choice to second base before
Chris Werr drove him home with a hard hit single to center field to come within two, 3-1.
That is all the scoring the Roadrunners would do as Rutgers-Newark would add two more run in the sixth and ninth innings to extend their lead to 5-1. Ramapo went down in order in the ninth as Rutgers-Newark came away with the victory.
Andrew Nasti evened his record to 2-2 with a complete game win for the Scarlet Raiders. He struck out four and walked none while scattering four hits.
Dan LaRocca (3-3) took the loss for Ramapo, he worked the first 5.2 innings. He struck out six and walked four while surrendered seven hits.
Walker Larson came in for relief as he struck out four in 3.1 innings of work while scattering two hits.
The Roadrunners will travel to Newark, NJ tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 to finish the home-and home-series with Rutgers-Newark University.
