Zach Carroll in the top of the 4th inning turned out to be the game winner, as the #14/20 Ramapo College baseball team defeated the Rangers of Drew University, 9-3 today in a non-conference road match-up. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 20-5-1 overall. The Rangers fall to 11-18.
Carroll laid down a bunt with one out in the 4th inning, and later came home on a single through the right side from
John Capuano, to score what turned out to be the game winning run in a 9-3 victory over non-conference foe, Drew University.
The Roadrunners scattered 13 hits and nine runs across six innings, their first run coming at the start of the game, after
Joe Venturino left off with a single to right center, and later came home on a
Dave Jacob double down the left field line. Ramapo added two more runs in the 2nd inning from
Chris Werr and
Kevin Case. Werr reached first base on a single and came home on a double from Case, before Venturino knocked in Case for the 3-0 Ramapo lead.
Drew added a run in the bottom of the inning, and a second run in the 3rd, to close the gap 2-3, before Carroll's game winning run crossed the plate in the top of the 4th.
The game remained scoreless until the 6th inning when three Ramapo runs gave the Roadrunners a 7-2 advantage. With two outs, Venturino singled and stole second, before a double from Capuano pushed him across home plate. Jacob ripped a two run home run over the left field wall, scoring Capuano for the five run lead.
The Rangers tacked on one more run in the 7th inning and Ramapo's Jacob and
Brandon Berger each scored in the 8th and 9th innings respectively, before
Jimmy Knight pitched the 9th inning closing out the victory for the Roadrunners.
John Radich pitched seven innings and gets the win to improve to 2-0. He struck out two and walked just one, letting up three runs, one earned, and seven hits.
Venturino hit 3-5 with two runs and one RBI while Jacob finished the day hitting 3-5 with two runs and three RBI. Capuano and Case hit 2-4 recording one run and two RBI, and one run and one RBI respectively.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they host Manhattanville College at 3:30pm in Mahwah.
