Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The #9/14 Ramapo College baseball team and NJAC rival Montclair State University played to a 4-4 tie after nine innings today at Jeff Maund Memorial Field. The game was called due to darkness. The Roadrunners now stand at 17-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the NJAC while the Redhawks now stand at 11-8-1, 3-3-1.
Ramapo got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the second.
Chris Werr doubled to center field before
Ryan Rinsky laced a single down the left field line for the RBI, 1-0.
MSU took a 3-1 lead in the fourth when Steve Nappe ripped a two-run triple and later scored on a suicide squeeze. The Redhawks added one more run in the sixth inning as Louis Martini drew a bases loaded walk, 4-1.
Ramapo got one back in the bottom half of the sixth as
Christian Spurr scored on a pass ball, 4-2. The Roadrunners would tie the game in the eighth inning.
John Capuano reached on an error before Spurr doubled down the left field line to put runner's on second and third.
Scott Paulus ripped a single to left field as both runner's came around to score to tie the game at four.
In the top ninth, MSU had the go-ahead run on second base with one out before
Travis Zilg induced a fly ball and ground out to end the inning. The Roadrunners had the game winning run on second base with one out in the bottom half of the ninth as
Kevin Case led off with a single to center field and advanced to second on a sac bunt from
Joe Venturino before MSU relief pitcher Kyle Papp induced a fly out and infield ground out to end the inning. The game was then called due to darkness. Each team will get a point in the NJAC standings for the tie conference game.
Ramapo starting pitcher,
PJ Cerreto went 7.2 innings of work, striking out eight and walking seven while scattering three hits.
Pasquale LaBracio worked the final batter of the eighth inning and recorded a strikeout looking on three pitches. Zilg worked the ninth inning, he did not give up a hit while he walked two.
Spurr, Paulus and Werr each collected two hits for Ramapo. The Roadrunners out hit MSU, 10-3.
For MSU, starter John Torregroza worked the first 7.1 innings, striking out seven, and scattered nine hits.
The two teams will return to action tomorrow at Montclair State in a 3:30pm game.
