COUGARS DEFEAT ROADRUNNERS, 78-69

Box Score Union, NJ:  The Kean University men's basketball team defeated NJAC rival Ramapo College tonight at Hardwood Arena, 78-69. The Cougars improve to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners fall to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC.

Kean jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Ramapo got on the board with a three-point basket from Jermaine Emanuel with 16:32 on the clock. George Sapp would score a layup to come within one, 5-6 (15:09) before they would tie the game following two made foul shots by Kean, 8-8 (14:36). The two teams traded baskets before Ramapo's Pat O'Connell scored to tie the game at 11 all (9:15). The Cougars went on a 7-1 run to take a six point lead with just under seven minutes to play in the half. With 4:08 left in the half the Cougars started to pull away as they went on a 14-4 run to take the biggest lead of the game, 34-22 with just 36 seconds to play in the half. The Cougars would take a 36-25 lead into half-time.

The Cougars jumped out to a 19-point lead in the second half, 48-29, with 16:12 on the clock as Xavier Fuller scored on a layup. Kean led by as many as 24 points three times during the second half, the final time coming at 8:26, 63-39. Ramapo went on an 15-2 run to cut the lead to 11 (54-65) with 6:11 to play. The Roadrunners would cut the lead to eight, 59-67 with 4:07 on the clock before the Cougars stretched their lead back to 15 (76-61) with just over one minute to play in the game. Kean would hold onto the 78-69 conference win.

Ramapo was led by Frank Nock who posted a double-double, 20 points and 11 rebounds.Jermaine Emanuel recorded 14 points and six rebounds along with four assists and three steals. Chris Gibson added nine points off the bench. Ramapo shot 36% (23-63) from the field and 35% (6-17) from beyond the three point line. The Roadrunners also shot 68% (17-25) from the foul line.

The Roadrunners return to action on Monday, December 2nd when they travel to Medgar Evers College for a non-conference game at 7:30pm.
