GOTHIC KNIGHTS TOO MUCH FOR RAMAPO

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's soccer team fell to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 2-5 today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up in Mahwah.  With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 4-3 overall and .500 in the conference standing at 1-1.  NJCU improves to 6-2 overall, 1-1 in the conference.

Eduardo Tejada got the Gothic Knights on the scoreboard at 22:49 with an unassisted goal before the Roadrunners were awarded a penalty kick with just under four minutes to go in the half.  A shot high gave the Gothic Knights a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.

Despite falling behind a goal in the first 45 minutes of play, the Roadrunners held a 11-7 advantage in shots.  Rookie net minder Grant Korten posted one first half save while Sheldon Parkinson blocked seven first half shots. 

The second half belonged to the Gothic Knights as they took control out shooting Ramapo 18-11, and out scoring the Roadrunners 4-2.  Dave Przybylo took a ball from rookie Rob Shalikar to tie the game at one goal apiece, before Tejada struck again posting his second goal of the season, and of the game, at 58:05, giving the Gothic Knights a one goal, 2-1 lead.  Tejada dished a ball to Marco Avella under ten minutes later before Tejada capitalized on a penalty kick giving NJCU a 3-1 lead.  With 15 minutes to play, Bobby Attisano scored a goal of his own off a pass from Tejada and Ramapo's Andrew Kirshteyn chipped a ball in over Parkinson closing the gap, 5-2.  Parkinson made four saves in the half posting the victory for NJCU.

Korten grabbed two saves in the second half, and Steve Monaghan took over the keeper duties with 23 minutes to play making three saves of his own. 

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, September 22nd when they host Rutgers Newark at 1pm.
