Box Score Union, NJ: The #1 seeded Kean University baseball team blanked #5 Ramapo College, 3-0 today to earn their third straight NJAC Championship.
The Cougars (31-10) earn the league's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Roadrunners (31-13) will now wait until the NCAA Bracket is announced Monday, May 14th to see if they earned an at-large bid to the tournament.
Kean would score all the runs they would need in the top of the second inning when Tyler Smarslock laced a double down the left field line as Nick Zucchero and Vinny Galya came around to score, 2-0. The Cougars would get out of two base loaded jams during the game to preserve the shutout.
In the third inning, Ramapo would load the bases with two outs as Kean starting pitcher Kevin Herget got the final out via a strikeout to end the threat.
Kean scored an insurance run in the fifth inning as Smarslok singled to lead off and moved to third on a single to the outfield. He later came home on Sanguiliano's sacrifice fly to center field, 3-0.
The Roadrunners loaded the bases in the 5th with no outs before Herget recorded two strike outs and a infield pop up to end the inning with the lead. Ramapo threatened in the top of the ninth as Joesph Somma walked with one out before the Cougars' relief pitcher Sanguiliano induced an game ending 6-4-3 double play.
Herget scattered three hits in 8.0 innings pitched as he struck out six and walked six as he raised his record to 6-4. Sanguiliano earned his seventh save of the year in one inning of relief.
Matthew Jenisch (4-2) used his defense behind him during the complete game effort for Ramapo. He struck out one, walked two and scattered five hits.

Marco Carolla each collected a hit for the Roadrunners. Jacob recorded his 72nd hit on the year in the third inning, he now stands at second place on the single season hit's list at Ramapo. The record is 74 hits by Jerry Mayo (1974).
