#24 RAMAPO SPLITS WITH #9 ROWAN IN NJAC ACTION

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team split a NJAC double header today at Jeff Maund Field with #9/15 Rowan University. The Roadrunners now stand at 17-8 overall, 3-3 in the NJAC while the Profs are now 15-7 overall, 2-4 in the conference.

The Roadrunners dropped the first game of the doubleheader match-up,16-2 as Rowan scattered 23 hits across nine innings, crossing 16 for the New Jersey Athletic Conference victory.  What turned out to be the game winner crossed home plate in the top of the fifth inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, Ramapo got on the board when John Capuano singled to left and later scored on Christian Spurr's single to left field.

In the fourth, Marc Magliaro walked to lead off and Mark Benak doubled to left center which scored Magliaro to tie the game at one run each. After Matt Hill bunted Benak over to third base, Nick Turano singled through the left side driving in the Prof's second run of the game.

The Profs added five runs in the fifth inning (7-1), including the game winner, which scored off a double by Winkler.  It was Perez who crossed the plate after singling to get on base, and stealing second.  Rowan added nine more runs across the final four innings and Ramapo got one additional run on the board in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Profs.

Benak was Rowan's leader hitting 4-6 with two runs scored and four RBI, while Perez and Winkler each went 2-3 with three runs scored.

Steve Melchiorre gets the win after striking out ten and walking only one in 7.0 innings.  He let up six hits improving to 3-0 on the year.

Frank Baldini falls to .500 (3-3) after pitching 4.2 innings, letting up six hits and six runs.  He struck out two.

Ramapo took a 3-1 lead in game two against Rowan starting pitcher Curtis Arsi. The Profs put one run on the board in the top of the second inning before Ramapo scored three runs of their on in the bottom half of the inning.

Chris Werr and Marco Carolla led off the inning with back to back hits before Rich Policastro ripped a double down the left field line allowing both runners to score. Zach Carroll then singled home Policastro with a hit to center field, 3-0.

Rowan scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to tie the game at three. They took a 5-3 lead in the top of the tenth inning on a two-run homerun by Sean Kelly.

Ramapo would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning, 5-5. The bases were loaded for Carroll as he ripped a single up the middle plating John Capuano and pinch runner
James Hardgrove.

Rowan would once again take the lead in the top of the 11th inning, 6-5 before Ramapo came back and won the game with two outs in the bottom of the inning. Kevin Case walked before McEldowney was hit by a pitch to put runner's on first and secondwith one out. Carolla lined a single into right field allowing Case to come around to score the tying run. 6-6. Ian Osterman then poked a single into right field as McEldowney scored for the walk off win, 7-6.

Mark Delannoy scattered six hits over 6.2 innings of work for Ramapo. He struck out five and walked one. Daniel LaRocca worked 3.1 innings of relief with two strikeouts before PJ Cerreto (4-1) worked the final inning for Ramapo, earning the win. The Roadrunners pounded out 17 hits in the game.

Ramapo returns to action when they host St. Joseph's College (LI) on April 11th at 3:30 PM.
