RAMAPO EARNS ONE RUN WIN OVER VALIANTS, 6-5

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  Marco Carolla led the #24/28 Ramapo College baseball team in a 6-5 win over non-conference rival Manhattanville College today. The Roadrunners improve to 27-8 overall while the Valiants fall to 14-17.

Carolla singled to right field in the first inning before stealing second and third base to get into scoring position. Ian Osterman later knocked him home with a line drive single to center field, 1-0.

Manhattanville would tie the game in the second inning with an RBI single by Nate Trashansky before they took a 2-1 lead in the fourth with an RBI by Bobby Guerra. Ramapo came back with two runs in the fifth inning for a 3-2 lead. Carolla once again singled and stole second before Christan Spurr walked. Matt Hancock then drilled a double to center field allowing both runners to cross home plate for the lead.

The Valiants would get one run back in the bottom half of the inning as Dan Fiorito doubled to left field and Elias Tsouristakis scored, once again tying the game at three. In the sixth inning, Anthony Vinci singled to lead off before Lee Rozins was hit by a pitch. Dave Jacob put down a sac bunt before Carolla laced a single up the middle to pick up two RBI for the 5-3 lead. Ramapo would score the eventual game winning run in the eighth inning. Carolla led off with a single and stole second before moving to third on an error by the Valiants. Spurr then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field allowing Carolla to score for a 6-3 lead.

Manhattanville would make it interesting in the ninth when Hans Arias cracked a two-run home run to shrink the Ramapo lead to, 6-5. The Roadrunners were able to record the final three outs of the game to preserve the win.

Daniel Youngsman earned his second win of the season with five strikeouts over the final 4.1 innings of work. Walker Larson started for the Roadrunners, striking out four and walking none in the first 4.2 innings.

Carolla finished the game 4-5 with three runs scored and two RBI while Vinci collected two hits on three at bats with one run scored.

Ramapo returns to action when they travel to NJAC rival Kean University on Thursday for a 3:30pm game.
