BASEBALL SPLITS WITH NJAC RIVAL TCNJ

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team posted an 8-2 victory in game one of a NJAC double-header match-up with TCNJ, before falling to the Lions in 11-innings, 6-5. The Roadrunners now stand at 26-8 overall, 9-5 in the NJAC while the Lions are 21-14, 9-5 in conference play.

In game one, it was Chris Werr who drove a double out to center field to score Ian Osterman, who turned out to be the game's winning run, in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Ramapo added five additional runs in the same inning, and junior pitcher Travis Zilg closed out the complete game giving the Roadrunners the six run, 8-2 conference victory.

The Lions got on the board first with a run in the 1st inning after Jim Ruzich reached on an error and later came home on a RBI single to right field from Mike Galeotafiore.  The Roadrunners responded with a run of their own to tie the game at one run each in the bottom half of the inning as Christian Spurr ripped a single to right field driving in Dave Jacob.  Jacob reached base earlier in the inning when he led off with an infield single.

In the top of the 7th, TCNJ's Nick Cifelli crossed home plate to put the Lions up, 2-1, but the Roadrunners bats woke in the bottom of the inning gaining the lead.  Jacob scored the game tying run on a sac fly from Matt Hancock to right field, before Osterman, who was hit by a pitch, came home on Werr's double to take the lead.  Spurr came home on the same double and Werr and Lee Rozins each added a run of their own giving Ramapo the 7-2 advantage.  Ramapo tacked on a final run in the 8th from Hancock, who came home on a sac fly from Werr, and Zilg closed out the 9th with a one, two, three inning finishing the complete game to improve to 4-1 on the year. 

Zilg struck out three and let up only four hits across nine innings.  Benito Gonzalez gets the loss falling to 1-2 on the year.  He struck out one and let up four hits and six runs in his 2.1 inning appearance.

Jacob finished hitting 3-4 with two runs scored and Werr went 2-3 with one run scored and three RBI.  Nick Cefelli hit 1-3 with one run.

In the second game, TCNJ's Scott Kelly crossed home plate on a RBI single from Galeotafiori in the 1st before the Roadrunners matched it in the bottom half of the inning when Marco Carolla came home on a sac fly from Hancock.

TCNJ again took a one run, 2-1, lead in the 2nd inning when Paul Searles walked to lead off and later scored on a ground out by Kelly, before adding an additional run in the 3rd on a Mike Murray single which scored Galeotafiori.  Ramapo closed the gap again in the 3rd on a passed ball as Jacob came home after lacing a double earlier in the inning and Ramapo tied the game as Spurr scored on a single from Osterman, 3-3.  In the 5th inning the Roadrunners took the lead when Osterman knocked in Spurr with a triple to right field, Spurr reached earlier in the inning with a single, 4-3.  The Lions answered back in the 7th inning when Mike Murray singled to right field knocking in Nick Cifelli who lead off the inning with a single and Galeotafiore who walked, 5-4. 

The Roadrunners tied the game in the 9th inning when Jacob led off the inning with a double to right center, and advanced to third on a sacrifice hit by Carolla, he came home on infield error, 5-5.  TCNJ scored the winning run in the 11th inning when Kelly walked and advanced to second on a single by Cifelli and came home on a single to right field by Galeotafiore. 

Galeotafiore led the Lions going 3-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Murray picked up three RBI.  Ramapo's Spurr and Jacob both went 3-6 and Osterman picked up 2 RBI.

The Roadrunners return to action on April 24th when they travel to Manhattanville College for a 3:30 PM game.
