JACOB KNOCKS IN GAME WINNING RUN IN 9TH

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  Junior Dave Jacob knocked in the game winning run in the bottom of the 9th inning to lead Ramapo to a 3-2 New Jersey Athletic Conference baseball victory over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark at Jeff Maund Field today on the Mahwah campus.  With the win the Roadrunners improve to 25-7 overall and 8-4 in the conference.

It was a scoreless game until the 5th inning when Jimmy Napolitano of Rutgers Newark (15-17, 4-8 NJAC) drove in Vin Troisi, who doubled to right field with one out, to give the Scarlet Raiders a 1-0 edge.  Napolitano later came home on a throwing error to earn a two run advantage after 4.5 innings.

Ramapo responded with one run of their own in the bottom of the inning to close the gap, 1-2.  Joseph Somma doubled to left field with one out and later scored on an infield error.  In the 7th, with two outs in the book, John Capuano, a pinch runner for Dan Mauriello who walked to get on base, reached home as Marco Carolla ripped a single to right field.  It was Capuano again who touched home plate in the 9th inning giving Ramapo the one run win.  Capuano led off the inning with an infield single, and came home on Jacob's double to left field.

Daniel LaRocca earned the win pitching the final 2.2 innings.  He let up no runs and gave up only one hit while striking out and walking none.  He improves to 2-0 on the year. 

Matt Larangera got the loss, falling to 3-6, after letting up the game winning run.  He struck out one and walked none in a one inning appearance.

Jacob finished the day hitting 2-4 with one RBI, while Somma hit 1-2 with one run.  Chris Werr went 2-4 and Carolla hit 2-4 with one RBI, while Capuano posted one hit on one at bat.  He scored two runs. 

Napolitano led Rutgers Newark with three hits on four at bats.  He scored one and drove in one while Troisi went 1-5 with one run.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow, April 21st when they host NJAC foe TCNJ in a double-header match-up at 11:30AM.
