Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team improved to 23-7 overall with a 5-3 win over Drew University today at Jeff Maund Field. The win was the Roadrunners ninth straight as the Rangers drop to 16-14 overall.
Ramapo jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. With two outs
Matthew Hancock ripped a single to left field plating
Marco Carolla who reached on a single earlier in the inning.
Chris Werr then laced a single to right field as
Dan Moreno and Hanock would come around to score, 3-0.
Christian Spurr hit his team leading fifth home run of the season in the third inning before Drew got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI single from Mike Chiarella. Ramapo scored one run in the fifth inning when
Dave Jacob laid down a bunt single and came around to score on Spurr's double to right center field for the 5-1 lead.
Drew scored one run in the sixth and seventh innings to shrink the Roadrunner lead to 5-3. The Rangers would make it interesting in the ninth when the first two batters reached base with hard hit singles before they moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt.
Travis Zilg earned his second save of the season as he was able to get Ramapo out of the jam with two infield ground outs.
Ramapo pounded out 13 hits in the game while Jacob, Spurr, Hancock, Werr and
Lee Rozins each collected to two hits. James Knight (1-0) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners working 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they travel to NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University for a 3:30pm game.
