RAMAPO SWEEPS NJCU IN NJAC BASEBALL ACTION

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team came from behind on two occasions to defeat the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 11-4 in the first of a NJAC doubleheader match-up today in Mahwah, before posting a 5-3 victory in game two behind a complete game from Mark Delannoy to earn the conference sweep and improve to 20-7 overall and 6-4 in the conference.

NJCU (11-17, 1-9 NJAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning after Michael Martucci ripped a single to centerfield which scored Pete Senyszyn who led off with a single of his own.  Rob Roman drove in Andrew Rivera who led off the 2nd inning with a single to right field earning the Gothic Knights a two run edge.

The Roadrunners quickly responded in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game at two runs each.  Dave Jacob singled with one out and later came home when Christian Spurr grounded out to second base, before Dan Moreno singled through the left side to score Marco Carolla.

Alex Weinstein scored on a wild pitch in the 4th and Michael Patterson scored on an error in the 5th giving the Gothic Knights their second lead of the game, before Ramapo's Spurr ripped a double to score Jacob in the 5th sparking a nine run explosion from Ramapo across three innings (5th, 6th, and 8th), for an 11-4 Ramapo victory.  Chris Werr, John Capuano, Jacob, Spurr, and Carolla each scored a run in the 6th while Capuano, Spurr, and Jacob each recorded a run of their own in the 8th inning.

Matt Jenisch pitched the final 4.1 innings of the game earning the win to improve to 4-0 on the year.  He struck out four and walked only one while letting up two hits and no runs.  Capuano went 2-2 with two runs and one RBI while Jacob hit 2-2 with four runs scored.  Carolla and Spurr each hit 2-4 with two runs each.  Carolla drove in one run and Spurr drove in three of his own.

Brian Bustillo hit 3-4 for NJCU and Rivera went 1-4 with one run scored.  Wendell Rodriguez gets the loss after pitching 7.0 innings.  He let up eight runs and 12 hits while striking out seven and walking two.  He falls to 3-4 on the year.

In game two, The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning with a run from Matt Hancock, before NJCU took a 2-1 edge in the top of the 3rd with runs from Patterson and Senyszyn.  Patterson walked to lead off the inning and Senyszyn followed with a single to right field advancing Patterson to third.  Bustillo grounded out to second base to drive home Patterson and Martucci ripped a RBI single bringing home Senyszyn.

With no outs in the 6th inning and runners on first and third, Hancock doubled down the right field line scoring Spurr.  Werr ripped a double of his own to score Hancock and Moreno giving the Roadrunners a 4-2 advantage.  The Gothic Knights would tack on one more run in the top of the 7th but it wasn't enough to surpass the Roadrunners falling short, 3-5.

Moreno hit 1-4 and Hancock went 1-3 while scoring two runs and one RBI.  Werr hit 1-3 and drove in two runs in the win.  Delannoy earns the win improving to 2-1 overall firing 5.2 innings of work as he struck out nine and walked only one.

Senyszyn hit 2-4 with one run scored and Martucci, Weinstein, and Matthew Wagner all hit 2-4 on the day for the Gothic Knights.  Nelson Maldonado let up all eight hits and five runs for NJCU pitching the complete game.  He walked four in his fifth loss of the year (1-5).

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they host Baruch College at 1pm.  NJCU faces off with Baruch on Tuesday, April 17th at 3:45pm in Jersey City.
