CERRETO LEADS RAMAPO OVER #23 WILLIAM PATERSON, 6-2

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team defeated NJAC rival #23 William Paterson University today, 6-2 to complete the home-and-home sweep. The Roadrunners improve to 18-7, 4-4 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to, 21-7, 5-3 overall.

Christian Spurr got Ramapo on the board in the bottom of the first inning as he took the first pitch he saw over the left center field fence for his third home run of the season. The Roadrunners scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings for a 3-0 lead before they broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth for a 6-0 lead.

In the eighth, Matthew Hancock singled to lead off the inning and Chris Werr drew a walk before Joseph Somma ripped a single to left field plating Hancock. Anthony Vinci beat out a bunt single to load the bases for the Roadrunners and Lee Rozins drilled a single to center field as Werr crossed home plate. Dave Jacob recorded an RBI sacrifice fly to center field allowing pinch runner John Capuano to score for the 6-0 lead.

WPU would come back and score two runs in the ninth inning. Montanile recorded an infield ground out as Lauer scored while Adam Derner would plate Gibbons with a sacrifice fly to left field, 6-2.

Ramapo starting pitcher PJ Cerreto struck out nine and walked four in 8.1 innings of work as he scattered seven hits. Cerreto is now 6-1 on the year. Daniel LaRocca came into the game and recorded the final two outs for Ramapo to earn the save.

Tim O'Shea worked seven innings in the loss for WPU, he struck out eight, walked four and surrendered ten hits.

The Roadrunners belted out 12 hits in the game as Rozins led the team with four hits on four at bats with two RBI while Hancock was 3-4 with two runs scored and Somma was 3-3 with one run scored and one RBI.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow at 11:30AM as they host NJAC rival New Jersey City University at Jeff Maund Field.
