Dave Jacob led the Roadrunners to a 9-4 non-conference baseball victory today at Jeff Maund Field on the campus of Ramapo College. With the win, Ramapo improves to 16-7 overall.
Jacob got Ramapo on the board quickly in the first inning with a single to left field that drove in
Zach Carroll who reached on an error earlier in the inning to get on base. Jacob stole second and third base and crossed home plate on a single by Matt Hancock for a 2-0 Ramapo lead after one.
The Roadrunners added three additional runs in the bottom of the third and fourth inning to go up, 8-0.
Ian Osterman singled up the middle with two outs and bases loaded driving in two runs, and
Chris Werr came home for the fifth run of the game on a passed ball in the third, before Carroll crossed home plate on an error in the fourth to gain a six run edge.
John Capuano and
Marco Carolla each added a run in the inning after singling and walking respectively to get on base.
After the Roadrunners took a 9-0 edge in the sixth inning, the Golden Eagles finally got on the board in the top of the seventh when Rich Pecoraro, Brian Hannigan, and Vincent Reda each crossed home plate. All three reached first base on singles. In the eighth, Anthony Delury tacked on a run for St. Joes after reaching first on a hit by pitch and coming home on a RBI single from Pecoraro. But two hits in the ninth weren't enough to overcome Ramapo's eight hits and nine runs wrapping up the game falling short, 4-9 to the Roadrunners.
Jacob finished the day hitting 2-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Hancock hit 2-2 with one run and three RBI while Osterman drove in two runs of his own.
Walker Larson got the win for Ramapo improving to 1-1 overall. He pitched 7.0 innings, striking out three and walking none, while letting up six hits and three runs.
Robert Hyde gets the loss falling to 2-2 on the year. He struck out six and walked two while letting up seven hits and eight runs, five earned. Pecoraro led the team hitting 2-4 with one run and one RBI. Reda finished the day 3-4 with one run.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they travel to NJAC foe William Paterson at 3:30pm.
