Box Score 2 Winter Haven, FL: The #24 Ramapo College baseball team split a non-conference double header today against Bowdoin College at the Russ Matt Baseball Tournament. Ramapo improves to 12-2 overall.
Christian Spurr put Ramapo on the board in the top of the first inning with a blast over the left field wall for a 1-0 lead. Bowdoin tied the game in the second and took the lead in the third inning as they scored three runs for a 4-1 lead.
The Roadrunners got two backing the fourth innings.
Joseph Somma led off the inning with a walk before
Chris Werr ripped a two-run home run to shrink the Bowdoin lead to 4-3. Neither team could push a run across over the final three innings.
Frank Baldini suffered his first loss of the season as scattered five hits over 2.2 innings of work. Daniel LaRocca came on in relief in the final 3.1, giving up only one hit.
In game two,
Dave Jacob came up in the eighth inning and the game tied at 4-4. With two outs Jacob knocked home pinch runner
Rich Policastro. Werr ripped a triple to lead off the inning before being lifted for Policastro.
Ramapo was down 4-0 going into the fifth inning as the Roadrunners scored one run.
Kevin Case singled before he scored on Jacob's double, 4-1. Ramapo scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at four. With the bases loaded
Anthony Vinci singled home
Dan Moreno and
Matthew Hancock Joseph Somma later scored on an Bowdoin error, 4-4, setting up the eighth inning heroics by Jacob.
PJ Cerreto earned the win in relief for the Roadrunners as he struck out one over the final 1.1 innings with no hits allowed and no walks.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at 1:30 when they take on the University of Southern Maine.
