BASEBALL POWERS PAST AMHERST, 14-1

Box Score Aburndale, FL:  The #24 Ramapo College baseball team defeated Amherst College, 14-1 today at the Russ Matt Baseball Tournament, raising their record to 11-1 overall. Amherst falls to 4-2 overall.

The Roadrunners scored one run in the top of the third inning as Dan Moreno ripped an RBI single to left field allowing Dave Jacob to cross home plate. Jacob recorded an infield single earlier in the inning. Ramapo added one more run in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead when Matthew Hanock singled up the middle as Jacob scored from second base.

Amherst got on run back in the bottom half of the fifth inning with an RBI double to come within one, 2-1 before Ramapo scored three more runs in the seventh inning. Jacob led off with a single before he was sacrificed to second by Anthony Vinci. Christian Spurr walked and with two outs Hancock ripped the first pitch he saw over the right field fence for a three-run home run, 5-1.

Ramapo exploded for nine runs on eight hits in the eighth inning highlighted by a bases loaded double by Jacob, scoring Werr and Case. Later in the inning Werr slammed a bases loaded double to deep centerfield, clearing the bases allowing Moreno, pinch runner Ryan Arnone and Joseph Somma to score.

The game was called after eight innings of play since the Roadrunners were up more then ten runs per tournament rules. Travis Zilg (3-0) earned his third win on the mound in the complete game victory as he struck out three including the final out of the game. He also scattered seven hits.

Jacob and Hancock led the team at the plate. Jacob finished the game 4-5 with four runs scored and two RBI while Hancock was 3-5 with five RBI and one run scored. Werr was 2-3 with one run scored and three RBI and Vinci knocked in two RBI while scoring one of his own.

Rampao returns to action tomorrow against Bowdoin College at 12:00 PM.
