Will Sanborn led the Roadrunners to a 80-57 victory over Yeshiva tonight at the Bradley Center with 22 points. The Roadrunners now stand at 1-0 while the Maccabees fall to 0-1 to start the 2012-2013 season.
Ramapo opened to a quick nine point lead after scoring the first baskets of the game behind a quick three-point goal from Sanborn, and two points each from
Garret Thiel, Treadwell, and LoRusso. Yeshiva finally got on the scoreboard with 15:23 on the clock with a layup from Gil Bash. Ramapo went up 17-2 before an eight point run from Yeshiva closed the gap to 17-10. Benjy Ritholtz sparked the run with a three-point goal and Bash capped it off with an and-one play. The closest the Maccabees would come was with 8:44 on the clock when Dovie Hoffman sank a basket from behind the arc to close the gap, 19-15. The Roadrunners spent the next eight minutes spreading the lead, their biggest advantage coming with just 42 seconds to play as Sanborn netted a two point basket to go up, 46-26. The two teams headed into the locker room split by 18 points with Ramapo ahead, 46-28.
The Roadrunners shot a combined 57% from the field hitting 17-30 behind 16 points from Sanborn. LoRusso went a perfect 4-4 from the field sinking 11 points in the first half of play. Sanborn and LoRusso each chipped in two assists. The Roadrunners caused ten Yeshiva turnovers. Hoffman led the Maccabees in the half with ten points hitting 3-8 from the field.
The play remained much of the same in the second half with Ramapo grabbing a 22-point, 59-37 lead at 14:17 with a basket from Treadwell. Ramapo would go up 23 points with a two-point goal from sophomore
John Martens, before Ritholtz sunk a three pointer for Yeshiva to close the gap, 62-42. In the final nine plus minutes of play, the Roadrunners held the lead to earn the victory at the final buzzer, 80-57.
Sanborn led the Roadrunners with 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists. AJ LoRusso followed behind with 11 points and three assists while
Stephon Treadwell had 10 points.
Elgin Brown contributed with nine points and rebounds. The Roadrunners shot 53% (32-60) from the field during the game and 44% (10-23) from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, November 20th when they travel to Jersey City, NJ to take on NJAC rival New Jersey City University at 8:00 PM.
