Box Score Newark, NJ: Rutgers-Newark got the tying goal with 44 seconds left in regulation on its way to a 2-1 overtime New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Ramapo College on Alumni Field.
Junior midfielder Nick Kypriano headed a line drive free kick from the left side into the left side of the goal to knot the score and stun a Roadrunner team which had controlled play until the Scarlet Raiders' final frantic surge.
Ramapo junior Rob Santiello fired a shot over the crossbar just 50 seconds into overtime before the Raiders countered in the 92nd minute. Freshman reserve forward Patryck Dawidczyk redirected an aerial pass into the right side of the box by sophomore midfielder Rafael Donado into the right side of the net sending the Raiders into a wild celebration.
Ramapo struck just 1:16 into the match when junior midfielder
Joseph Kane raced onto a long through pass on the right side from junior midfielder
Jonathan Yazo and scored on a breakaway shot from 30 yards out on the right side.
The Roadrunners dominated the first half, firing off 13 shots to the Raiders' five, but Rutgers-Newark junior goalkeeper Jonathan Frances came up with five of his nine saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep his team in the fray.
Ramapo sophomore goalkeeper
Steve Monaghan shut out the Raiders with five saves for over 89 minutes, but it was not enough. Rutgers-Newark took seven of its nine corner kicks in the opening period, but had few solid chances to score. For the night, the Raiders forged a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Raiders (6-3-0, NJAC 1-2-0) snapped two-game losing streak while snapping a 2-0-1 run by the Roadrunners (5-2-1, NJAC 1-1-0). Ramapo will return to action when they host NJAC rival William Paterson University on September 28th at 4:00 PM.
