KEAN DEFEATS RAMAPO, 6-5; ROADRUNNERS EARN #4 SEED IN NJAC TOURNAMENT

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team nearly knocked off #4 Kean University today for the second time this season with a late game rally as the Cougars held on for a 6-5 win. With the win, Kean (31-7, 14-4) earns the number one seed in the NJAC Baseball Tournamnet and the Roadrunners (29-9, 11-7) earn the number 4 seed.

Ramapo will travel to #3 Rutgers-Newark University tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm while Kean will host #6 Montclair State University at 3:30pm.

The Roadrunners got on the board with one run in the first inning when Kevin Knox reached on a throwing error and later scored on a double down the left field line by Matt Hancock to take a 1-0 lead. The Cougars came back with four runs on three hits in the top of the second for a 4-1 lead.

Ramapo came within one run in the bottom half of the second inning when they scored two runs. With runner's on first and third and one out, Joseph Somma scored from thirdbase on an infield ground out before Pat Driscoll came around to score on a throwing error by the Kean infield, 4-3.

The Cougars made it 5-3 with one run in the fourth inning. With two outs, Chris Carrano ripped a single to right center field and stole second before Lee Cavico dumped a single into center field to pick up the RBI. Ramapo got the run back in the bottom of the fifth inning as Knox scored on a wild pitch, 5-4. He reached on a single to centerfield to lead off the inning. Kean scored the eventual winning run in the top of the ninth inning with an RBI sacrifice fly by Kyle Walker as Cavico scored, he walked earlier in the inning to reach base.

Ramapo wouldn't go down without a fight as Lee Rozins doubled down the right field line to lead off the bottom of the ninth before Knox drove him in with a RBI single to right field. The Cougars brought in Greg Baruka to earn his first save of the year as the Cougars turned a double play for the first two outs and a ground out to end the game. Sam Fourre earned his first win of the season as he scattered three hits over 7.0 innings of work while he walked four and struck out three.

Ramapo starter John Guagliardo worked 1.1 innings as he gave up four earned runs off only one hit while Dan LaRocca worked seven complete innings. He scattered nine hits while striking out five and walking two.

Knox led Ramapo as he went 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Hancock, Somma and Rozins each collected one hit a piece.
