SCARLET RAIDERS RALLY LATE IN 6-4 WIN OVER ROADRUNNERS

Newark, NJ: The Rutgers-Newark University baseball team used back to back RBI singles in the eight inning to take a 5-4 lead as the Scarlet Raiders won a key NJAC game over Ramapo College today at Riverfront Stadium. The Scarlet Raiders improve to 19-10 overall, 9-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners saw their eight game win streak snapped as they fall to 23-7 overall and 6-5 in the conference.

Ramapo took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Nicholas DiGirolamo led off the inning with a double to left field before Rob Dimperio walked. Kevin Knox and Christian Spurr followed with rbi singles to put the Roadrunners on the board. The Scarlet Raiders got two runs back in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field and a RBI double down the left field line.

The two teams were held scoreless until the sixth when Rutgers-Newark tied the game with an RBI infield ground out, 3-3. Ramapo took the lead back in the seventh inning with one run on three hits while they left three runners on base. Pat Driscoll singled up the middle before Spurr doubled to left field as Driscoll advanced to third and later scored on a wild pitch, 4-3.

The Scarlet Raiders pushed two runs across in the bottom of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead with two-out RBI singles from Matt Connors (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) and senior centerfielder Michael DiCenso (Wayne, NJ). They added an insurance run in the eighth for a 6-4 lead.

Ramapo and Rutgers-Newark return to action tomorrow in Mahwah, NJ at 3:30pm.
