Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated non-conference foe the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 4-1 today at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners who extend their win streak to eight games, improve to to 23-6 overall while the Dolphins drop to 14-20.
The two teams put zero's on the board until the bottom of the fifth inning when Ramapo struck for three runs on four hits.
Nicholas DiGirolamo singled to third base to lead off the inning before
Joseph Somma laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance DiGirolamo.
Marco Carolla then came up with a big two strike RBI single down the right field line and he moved to second on the throw home, he moved to third on a ground out before
Kevin Knox ripped a single to right field for the RBI. Knox then stole second before
Pat Driscoll single to right field and Knox scored on the play putting the Roadrunners up 3-0.
Ramapo added one run in the seventh inning when
Dan Mauriello singled home Rozins. Rozins recorded an infield single and stole second base earlier in the inning.
The Dolphins would make it interesting in the top of the ninth as they scored one run and had the tying run at the plate before the Roadrunners could record the final out of the inning for the win.
Ramapo starting pitcher James Knight (2-0) picked up his second win of the season while Daniel LaRocca earned his first save in relief. Knight tossed 8.1 innings of work, striking out one while scattering six hits. LaRocca recorded the final two outs of the game on a ground out and pop fly, both to second base.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they travel to NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University for a 4pm start.
