Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team swept a non-conference double header from Manhattanville College today, 5-1 and 8-1 to raise their record to 21-6 overall. The Valiants drop to 14-13 overall.
Frank Baldini pitched a complete game shutout remaining undefeated, 3-0. He struck out nine and scattered three hits over seven innings. The Roadrunners tallied nine hits in the game with
Peter Dacenko being the only player to record a multiple game going 2-3 with one run scored.
With two outs and runner's on first and second,
Dan Mauriello singled through the left side scoring
Dan Moreno who reached on an single to right field to lead off the inning.
John Capuano ripped a single to center picking up two RBI as Mauriello and Dacenko scored, 3-0.
Manhattanville got one run back in the fifth inning on a RBI single from Chad Wallace before Ramapo scored two more runs in the fifth inning.
Kevin Knox reached on an infield error before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Christian Spurr plated Knox with a RBI single to left field before
Matthew Hancock ripped a single up the middle allowing Spurr to cross home plate.
Baldini and the Roadrunners got Manhattanville out 1-2-3 in the sixth and seventh innings to preserve the win.
In game two, Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Joseph Somma was hit by a pitch with one out and moved up to third on a pass ball and wild pitch before back to back walks issued to Spurr and Dacenko. Somma then scored on a wild pitch before Hancock drove in Spurr and Dacenko with a hard hit single to right field. They added three more runs in the second inning,
Pat Driscoll singled up the middle and stole second base before advancing to third base on a fielder's choice by Knox. Driscoll scored on a pass ball as Knox moved to second before Knox stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the Valiant's catcher. Dacenko plated the final run of the inning with a single down the left field line as Somma scored, he walked earlier in the inning. Ramapo added two runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth before the Valiants got on the board in the sixth inning with a sacrifice line drive to center field.
Manhattanville went down 1-2-3 in the seventh as Ramapo held the Valiants for their 21st win of the season.
Mark Delannoy (2-0) struck out five over the first five inning to pick up his second win of the season. The Roadrunners belted out ten hits while no one in the lineup collected a multi-hit game and Knox led the team with two RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they travel to NJAC foe New Jersey City University tomorrow for a single game beginning at 3:30 PM.
