KEAN HOLDS OFF LATE RALLY BY RAMAPO, DEFEATS ROADRUNNERS, 3-2

Union, NJ:  The Kean University field hockey team scored three consecutive goals and held off a late Ramapo College rally to defeat the Roadrunners, 3-2, Tuesday evening in NJAC action.

The Cougars (9-3, 3-1 NJAC) were led by senior Olivia Triano who tallied two assists on the evening.  She is now tied with former Cougar Katie McGee for the career assists mark (29).

Kean jumped on the board just three minutes into the action as sophomore Stephanie Soares redirected a shot fired off the stick of Triano 30 yards out.  The Cougars added one more before the break as junior Kelly Bachovchin scored off a penalty stroke in the 31st minute of action.

The Cougars went up 3-0 as sophomore Korri Thompson redirected a hard shot from Triano on the left side of the cage at 45:37.

The Roadrunners (7-5, 0-4 NJAC) got one back in the 51st minute as junior Victoria Ahlers pushed one in off a defender deflection.  Just over six minutes later Ramapo closed within one as senior Jayne Manigrasso fired a goal from the top of the circle off a penalty corner assist from senior Amanda Barretta.

Sophomore Erin Langan recorded seven saves in the win, including a penalty stroke stop in the first half.  Junior Rebecca Elliott also made seven saves in the loss for Ramapo.

Kean held a 18-8 advantage in penalty corners and 16-10 edge in shots.

Kean returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to the College of New Jersey for a 7:30 p.m. match-up, while Ramapo hosts Elmira College on Sunday.
