Glassboro, NJ: The Rowan University field hockey team defeated Ramapo College, 4-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Thursday night.
The Profs improve to 6-3 overall and they are undefeated in the conference with a 2-0 mark. The Roadrunners have a 4-4 record and it was their first NJAC game on the season.
Forward Nicole Valianti (sr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) scored two goals and had one assist for Rowan. Midfielders Ashley Adams (jr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) and Rachael Dix (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) each contributed with one goal. Forwards Lauren Ross (sr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) and Julie Cairone (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had one assist apiece. Valianti scored the first goal at 4:29 on a pass by Ross. Barretta tied the game less than five minutes later with an unassisted goal. Dix found the right side of the goal at 21:23 with a cross from Valianti.
In the second half, Valianti made the score 3-1 at 57:22. It was her eighth goal of the year. With 48 seconds remaining, Adams added an insurance goal when she knocked in a pass from Cairone who got the ball off a rebounded shot.
