ROADRUNNERS SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF 2010 SEASON

Mahwah, NJ:  With two second half goals the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut posted a shutout victory over the Roadrunner men' soccer team in a non-conference match-up today at the Athletic Center.  The Roadrunners suffered their first loss of the 2010 season falling to 4-1 overall.

After a scoreless 45 minutes of play, Eastern Connecticut (4-0) went up 1-0 with a goal during a scramble in front of the net when Sean Collins dished Cory Tobler the ball who ripped a shot past the rookie Ramapo netminder Stephen Monaghan (Middletown, NJ).  The two teams played another 25 minutes of scoreless soccer before the Warriors struck again to go up two goals to none.  Luke Capezzone scored the goal unassisted at 81:25.

Ramapo had their chances out shooting the Warriors by a slim 18-16, their best opportunity coming at 29:27 when  Rob Santaniello (Oakland, NJ) hit the cross bar on a header.  Ramapo out shot the Warriors 11-4 in the first half, but Carl Appel made nine saves across the match-up earning the 2-0 shutout.

Monaghan finished the game with nine saves of his own in the full 90 minutes of play and Eastern Connecticut held a game edge in corner kicks, 6-4.

Ramapo return to action on Wednesday, September 15th when they host SUNT Old Westbury at the Athletic Center at 4pm.
