RAMAPO SLIPS PAST SCARLET RAIDERS, 15-14

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark, 15-14 today in an NJAC match up at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners improve to 8-10 overall (2-4 NJAC) while the Raiders fall to 8-14 overall (1-3 NJAC).

Junior Patrick Reitemeyer (Kearny. NJ) single to shortstop allowed junior Matt Connors (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) to come home and take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning for the Scarlet Raiders.

Rutgers-Newark plated five runs in the top of the second thanks to junior Michael Cassese (Belleville, NJ) who hit a grand slam to center field, followed by Reitemeyer who homered to center field. The Roadrunners got two back in the second inning when sophomore Joseph Della Serra (Cranford, NJ) singled to center field allowing sophomore Dan Moreno (Cranford, NJ) to come home, followed by rookie Christian Spurr (Warren, NJ) who came home on a sacrifice fly by senior Justin Donnarumma (Wayne, NJ).

The two teams traded runs in the third and fourth innings. In the fifth inning Ramapo took the lead when rookie John Baab (North Caldwell, NJ) reached first on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch before advancing to third on an error by the Scarlet Raider center fielder. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Junior Rob Dimperio (Jackson, NJ), 10-9. The Roadrunners continued to score two additional runs in the fifth and two in the sixth inning. The Roadrunners gave up one run in the sixth to the Raiders and four in the seventh, 15-14.

Moreno and Spurr were both 3-5 while sophomore Dan Mauriello (Monroe, NY) was 2-3 in the game. Roadrunner junior pitcher Antonio Imbimbo (Wayne, NJ) picked up the win (1-0), he struck out two and walked one. Raider senior pitcher John Kuder (Washington Township, NJ) took the loss falling to 1-2 on the season, he struck out two while giving up three runs, all unearned.

The Roadrunners return to action in an NJAC double header Saturday, traveling to Stockton College at 11:30 AM in Pomona, NJ.
