RAMAPO SPLITS NJAC DOUBLE HEADER WITH ROWAN

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team split with the Profs of Rowan University today at Jeff Maund Field today in an NJAC double-header match-up, 7-6 and game one and lost 8-6 in game two. The Roadrunners are now 17-14 overall, 6-8 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Profs are to 20-12 overall, 11-4 in the NJAC.

The Roadrunners took the lead in the second inning when sophomore Dan Mauriello (Monroe, NY) ripped a single to center field plating Dan Moreno (Cranford, NJ) who reached earlier in the inning on a throwing error and Christian Spurr (Warren, NJ) who singled to right field, both advanced when Michael Hansford (Hillsborough, NJ) walked. Hansford later scored when junior Mike McGuckin hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Mauriello then scored on a fielder's choice, 4-0.

The Profs got two back in the third inning, 4-2 and another run in the fifth, 4-3. They then took the lead in the sixth. Senior Dave Lenig (Pennsville, NJ) singled to first base, later plating the tying run when Matt Citro singled to right field. Turano then singled to right field plating Citro and Winkler who reached earlier on an error, 4-6.

The Roadrunners tied the game back up in the seventh when Nick DiGirolamo (Dumont, NJ) singled to center field plating Hansford who reached earlier on a single and advanced to second on a ground out by Mauriello. Senior Mark Ruggiero (Fairfield, NJ) then singled to center field allowing freshman Jordan Greenberg (Butler, NJ), who walked earlier in the inning to tie the game, 6-6. In the eighth the Roadrunners scored the winning run when senior Joey Cacchiola (Union, NJ) singled to center field, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Moreno, and scored on an error by the Profs second baseman, 7-6.

Freshman Christian Spurr was 2-4 with one run scored and Mauriello was 2-4 with one run scored and two RBI. Freshman Roadrunner pitcher PJ Cerreto took the win and improved to a 3-2 record striking out three.

In game two, the Roadrunners took the lead in the third inning when McGuckin ripped a single to short stop, advanced to third on a failed pick off attempt, and came home on a ground out to shortstop by DiGirolamo. The Profs fought back in the fourth when Lenig ripped a double to center field and Turano then doubled to left allowing Lenig to come home, 1-1.

The Profs plated six runs in the fifth inning, 1-7, and one in the sixth, 1-8. The Roadrunners fought back in the sixth when Moreno hit his fifth homerun of the season, 2-8. The Roadrunners plated three runs in the eighth inning, 5-8, and one run in the ninth, 6-8.

Sophomore Dan Moreno was 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI and junior Nick DiGirolamo was 3-5 with three RBI.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at 11:30 AM when they host Mount St. Mary College.
