RAMAPO TAKES TWO FROM RICHARD STOCKTON IN NJAC ACTION

Pomona, NJ: Richard Stockton (12-12, 2-4 NJAC) dropped both games of a home doubleheader against NJAC foe Ramapo (10-10, 4-4). The Ospreys lost the first game 10-4 and then fell 16-7 in the nightcap. The Roadrunners pounded out 31 hits in the twinbill.

In game one, Ramapo took a 3-0 lead on a two-run homer by Mark Ruggiero (Fairfield/West Essex), the first of his three hits, and an unearned run. The Ospreys climbed back to tie it at 3-3 on a RBI walk by Barry Larro (Cedarville/Cumberland) and a two-run error. The Roadrunners then put the game away by scoring once in the fourth inning on a wild pitch and three times each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Nick Scalise (Northfield/Mainland) hit a solo homer in the eighth for Stockton. Joey Cacchiola (Union/Union) and Dan Mauriello (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) each had two hits for Ramapo. Roadrunners' starter Travis Zilg (North Caldwell/West Essex) fanned eight and allowed just one earned run (plus two unearned) in 7 1/3 innings for the victory.

The second game was all Ramapo as the Roadrunners scored two runs in the first inning and seven more in the second, sending 12 men to the plate in the frame for an early 9-0 lead that they would not relinquish. Michael Hansford (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) had four hits, including a home run, and drove in six runs. Pat Driscoll (Sparta/Sparta), Cacchiola, Dan Moreno (Cranford/Cranford), Mauriello and Rob Dimperio (Jackson/Jackson), who also homered, all chipped in with two hits in the 19-hit attack.

Gage Mick (Bridgeton/Cumberland) went 3-3 and drove in two runs for the Ospreys. Larro had two hits and two RBI while Joe Farrell (Longport/Holy Spirit) homered and knocked in two runs. Larro finished the two games by getting four hits, including two doubles, and three RBI. Tim Hannes (Allendale/Northern Highlands) picked up his first win of the season, allowing two runs on four hits in five innings pitched.

Stockton's next game is Monday at 3:30 p.m. at home against arch-rival Rowan University. Ramapo travels to John Jay College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
