ROADRUNNERS RIGHT SHIP WITH DOUBLE HEADER SWEEP OVER COBBLESKILL AND ALBRIGHT

Winter Haven, FL:  The Ramapo College Roadrunners completed a double header sweep today, beating both SUNY Cobleskill and Albright College by a score of 13-1. The games were highlighted by stellar pitching performances, and a balanced offensive attack.  With the two victories, Ramapo improves to 5-3 overall on the year.

GAME 1 – Ramapo 13 - Cobbleskill 1
The Roadrunners got on the board early in game one, scoring five runs in the second inning, all with two outs. Designated hitter, Steve Campbell drove in centerfielder Nicholas DiGirolamo to break the ice, and catcher John Baab followed suit, sending a triple to the right field wall bringing around Campbell. Second baseman John McGuckin singled to score Baab and shortstop Kevin Knox continued the rally with a single. The inning was punctuated when rightfielder Joe Somma sent a drive to right field, which the outfielder misplayed scoring two more runs for the Roadrunners. Ramapo went on to score single runs in the third and fifth innings, which sandwiched a pair of runs in the fourth. The knockout blow came in the top of the seventh, when the Roadrunners scored four more times to put the game out of reach.

Freshman PJ Cerreto, on his 19th birthday, was phenomenal for the Roadrunners, throwing six innings, giving up one run on three hits striking out seven. Jimmy Knight threw a scoreless 7th inning, striking out one of his own. At the plate, Knox had three hits, a walk, and scored four runs. Somma had two hits. Third baseman Joey Cacchiola had a single, triple, two RBI, and two runs scored. Baab had two hits as well. Peter Sita, Justin Donnarumma, Campbell, McGuckin, and Matt Buragina had one hit and one RBI a piece.

GAME 2 – Ramapo 13 - Albright 1
Senior Mike Murano took the hill for the Roadrunners in game two, looking to continue what Cerreto started. He did a great job in the top of the first, getting a pair of strikeouts and a groundout to short. The teams traded goose eggs until the bottom of the third, when DiGirolamo got the Roadrunners going again with a leadoff single. Second baseman Mark Ruggiero sacrificed him to second, and Cacchiola drove him in with a single, 1-0 Ramapo. The Lions came right back, with a leadoff single, followed by an RBI double to immediately tie the game. The runner on second moved to third on a ground out to short, but was stranded when Murano induced a strike out and a line out to second to end the inning with the score tied at 1.

Ramapo broke the game wide open in the fifth, sending 14 men to the plate, and scoring ten, including the first eight to bat. DiGirolamo, Ruggiero, and Cacchiola each had two hits in the inning, Christian Spurr had a two RBI single, and Mike McGuckin tripled in a run off the right-centerfield wall. Dan Mauriello was hit by a pitch, Dan Moreno walked, and Mike Hansford singled, each driving in a run as well. Murano then cruised through the seventh, before being relieved by lefty Ryan O'Grady for the final two innings. For the game, Murano went seven innings, giving up a run on four hits, while striking out six. O'Grady went two innings allowing no runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts. At the plate, six Roadrunners had three hits apiece including DiGirolamo, Ruggiero, Cacchiola, Spurr, Hansford, and Mike McGuckin.

The Roadrunners return to action early tomorrow morning, at 9:30am, taking on Suffolk University at Chain O'Lakes park.
