MSU EARNS A 4-2 WIN OVER RAMAPO IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: The Montclair State University field hockey team defeated Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center turf field, 4-2. The Red Hawks improve to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners even their record at 5-5 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

Montclair State took a 1-0 lead 4:42 into the game as they scored a goal following a penalty corner. Rookie Brittany Carroll (Kingston, NY) knocked in her third goal of the season; she was assisted by senior Diana Colombo (Westhampton, NJ). The Red Hawks made it 2-0 when senior Deana Hagel (Fairfield, NJ) tapped in a pass from sophomore Michelle Hagel (Fairfield, NJ) with 16:16 into the half.

The Roadrunners cut the lead to one when junior captain Rebecca Penhaker (Wantage, NJ) ripped a shot past the MSU goalie at 23:02 into the half.

Junior Amanda Barretta (Roseland, NJ) recorded her team leading 11th goal of the season just 46 seconds into the second half to tie the game at two. D. Hagel then put MSU back on top with her second goal of the game off an assist by Carroll at 41:27 into the game.

Sophomore Michelle Hagel (Fairfield, NJ) tacked on an insurance goal at 45:21, her first of the season. She was assisted by Colombo.

Sophomore Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ) recorded two saves for Montclair while sophomore Rebecca Elliott (Brick, NJ) tallied seven of her own for the Roadrunners. MSU out shot Ramapo, 15-4 and had a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners.

The Roadrunners return to action on October 9th when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College at 3:00 PM. The Red Hawks will host New Paltz on October 8th at 7:00 PM.
