Jonathan Yazo (Cliffside Park, NJ) teamed up in the second half of a New Jersey Athletic Conference men's soccer match-up today to lead the Roadrunners to a 1-0 victory over the Cougars of Kean University. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 7-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the NJAC. Kean falls to 6-3-1 overall and suffers their first loss in the conference falling to 3-1.
The first half of play remained scoreless with the Cougars holding an edge in shots, 11-6. Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield, NJ) made three first half saves for the Cougars while senior netminder
Brad Stockton (Toms River, NJ) blocked four shots in net for Ramapo. The Roadrunners earned two corner kicks in the half while the Cougars were held to none.
In the second half, Santaniello took a cross from Yazo and placed the ball in the back of the net past a diving Oquendo to give Ramapo a one goal advantage. Stockton kept seven second half shots out of the net earning the 1-0 shut out. Oquendo made an additional three saves while his team again held an edge in shots over Ramapo, 10-7, 21-13 for the game. The Cougars took four corners in the final 45 minutes of play and Ramapo was held to one.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Drew University for a 7pm start while the Cougars take on NYU, Monday at 7:00pm at Rutgers Newark's Alumni Field.
