WHYATT NETS GAME WINNER IN 2-1 VICTORY OVER KEYSTONE

Mahwah, NJ: Rookie Jenna Whyatt (Hamilton, NY) netted the game winning goal today leading the Ramapo College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over the Giants of Keystone University. With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 5-4 overall. Keystone falls to .500 at 5-5 overall.

The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard first in the first half when Katie Bruno (Middletown, NJ) capitalized on a penalty corner at 7:59 scoring her seventh goal of the year to give Ramapo a 1-0 edge. Whyatt scored her first collegiate goal just under 12 minutes later off a cross from sophomore Rachel Seidman (Somerset, NJ) to head into the intermission, 2-1 over the Giants. The Giants got on the board when Katie Darling connected on a penalty stroke awarded at 28:32.

The Roadrunners held a slight 7-5 edge in shots in the first 35 minutes of play and Rebecca Elliott (Brick, NJ) blocked one shot in the half. Melinda Moore was tested on three occasions in the half as the Roadrunners earned four corners to the Giants one.

In the final 35 minutes of play, Ramapo posted eight shots and Keystone took four, but Elliott made two saves and Moore recorded six holding the 2-1 Ramapo win. Ramapo again edged Keystone in corners, 3-2.

The Roadrunners will take on Montclair State when they return to action on Tuesday, October 5th at 4pm at the Athletic Center in Mahwah.
