Men's Soccer

TIGHE EARNS SECOND SHUT OUT OF THE SEASON, RAMAPO BLANKS LEHMAN, 9-0

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team defeated Lehman College, 9-0 in the opening game of  the President's Cup today to improve to 2-0 on the year, while FDU-Florham defeated Berkeley College, in the second of a double-header men's soccer showing, 6-1.

Senior Matt Fleissner (Scotch Plains, NJ) recorded his first goal of the season off a pass from rookie Brett Tracey (Mahwah, NJ) to put the Roadrunners up 1-0, just over three minutes into the game, before rookie Rob Santaniello (Oakland, NJ) scored off a pass from sophomore Frank Vogas (Clifton, NJ) and Jim Clementi (Medford Lakes, NJ) in the 15th minute to go up two goals to none. Vogas ripped a shot into the back of the net in the 17th minute to put Ramapo up 3-0, he was assisted by Fleissner.

Santaniello recorded his second and third goals of the game, back-to-back goals; the first assisted by Vogas and the second by Fleissner at 23:29 and 28:21 respectively. Vogas gave the Roadrunners a 6-0 edge with his second goal of the game off a pass from rookie Joseph Kane (Delran, NJ) to close out the first half in the 39th minute.

In the final 45 minutes of play, Ramapo put three more on the board to take the game 9-0. Rookie Danny Walsh (Franklin Lakes, NJ) slipped one past the goalie off a pass from Jeff Walsh (Franklin Lakes, NJ). Kane scored in the 72nd minute and Santaniello scored the final goal of the game off a pass from sophomore Jaivon Palmer (Englewood, NJ) in the 77th minute.

Senior Ian Tighe (Wyckoff, NJ) recorded the shutout improving to 2-0 on the year with two saves, while Philip Arkoh (Bronx, NY) recorded four saves in goal for Lehman.

The Roadrunners took 20 shots in the game to Lehman's four.

FDU-Florham's rookie Joshua Corpuz (Randolph, NJ) posted two goals for the Devils in the opening half, split by a goal from junior Duncan Swanwick (Basking Ridge, NJ) to take a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission. FDU struck at 22:40 and outshot Berkeley, 13-1 in the half.

The Devils added a goal at 52:39 by Paul Camarda (Cranford, NJ) to take a four goal lead over the Bulldogs before Corpuz added another goal, assisted by Matt Kinsley (Pearl River, NY) to take a 5-0 lead.  Berkeley finally got on the board at 56:37 with a goal from Dennis Castillo and FDU's Corpuz put away the final goal of the game earning their first win of the 2009 season.

Ramapo takes on Berekely College tomorrow at 3pm following a match-up between FDU-Florham and Lehman at 1pm.
