RAMAPO AND WILLIAM PATERSON KNOTTED IN NJAC PLAY, SANTANIELLO PUTS AWAY TWO

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's soccer team faced off with the Pioneers of William Paterson University today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up where both teams put away two goals finishing 110 minutes of soccer knotted at 2-2, both of Ramapo's goals coming from rookie Rob Santaniello (Oakland, NJ).  Ramapo remains undefeated and stands at 7-0-2 overall, 1-0-1 in the NJAC, while William Paterson stands at 5-1-1 overall with just two ties in conference play.

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in the 29th minute when sophomore Dan Fulmer (Andover, NJ) slid a ball in front of the net where Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) waited and slipped the ball past senior netminder Ian Tighe (Wyckoff, NJ) for his fifth goal of the season and a 1-0 Pioneer lead.  The score would hold into the intermission with William Paterson holding an edge in shots, 12-4.  Tighe finished the first 45 minutes of play with eight saves while Dan Peragallo (North Brunswick, NJ) blocked two Ramapo shots in the half.

Santaniello tied the game for the Roadrunners at 73:25 off an assist from fellow rookie Brett Tracey (Mahwah, NJ) and senior Justin Stone (Marlboro, NJ), but the Pioneers answered just under ten minutes later to again take the lead, 2-1. Junior forward Julian Valerio (Manalapan, NJ) put the ball away for the Pioneers to go up, 2-1.  The goal was unassisted.

Santaniello waited eight seconds to respond to the goal again tying the game, this time at two goals a piece.  With under seven minutes to play, the two teams were unable to finish the ball pushing the game into overtime play.  The Pioneers again out shot Ramapo in the second half, this time 12-6.  Tighe added five more saves while Peragallo was untested.

In the overtime periods, William Paterson saw just one game finishing opportunity which was denied by Tighe, and Ramapo's Matt Fleissner (Scotch Plains, NJ) almost finished the game for the Roadrunners with under four minutes to play, but Peragallo came up huge for the Pioneers, ticking the clock to zero with the two teams knotted at two goals each.

Tighe finished the day with 14 saves and Peragllo recorded three of his own in the full 110:00 minutes.    William Paterson out shot the Roadrunners 25-12 on the day.
