Newark, NJ: Sophomore midfielder
Frank Vogas (Clifton, NJ/Clifton HS) assisted on both Ramapo goals as the Roadrunners opened their New Jersey Athletic Conference slate with a 2-1 win over Rutgers-Newark on Alumni Field.
Vogas redirected a long restart kick from junior forward
Francis Carr (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe) in front of freshman forward
Rob Santaniello (Oakland, NJ/Ramapo) for an easy putaway into the left side of the goal in the 12th minute to stake the Roadrunners to and early lead.
In the 71st minute, Vogas then sent a restart kick into the left side of the box to senior midfielder
Justin Stone (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) who headed in what proved to be the game winner.
Rutgers-Newark sophomore midfielder Ronald Quiroz (Fairview, NJ/Cliffside Park) made it interesting in the closing minutes by heading in a goal off of a corner kick deflection by senior midfielder Tyler Chiara (Jamesburg, NJ/Monroe Township). But, the Raiders (4-2-2, NJAC 0-1-0) could get only one weak shot on goal during the closing minutes as Ramapo (6-0-1, NJAC 1-0-0) put away the victory.
Senior goalkeeper
Ian Tighe (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) notched the win for Ramapo, narrowly missing his fifth shutout of the season, by making making three saves. Rutgers-Newark junior goalkeeper Matt Zielyk (West Orange, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) also notched three saves.
The Raiders had a 13-10 edge in shots and controlled corner kicks, 6-3, in the tightly contested match.
