MANIGRASSO LEADS ROADRUNNERS TO COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN OVER DESALES

Mahwah, NJ: In a non-conference field hockey match-up at the Athletic Center today, the Ramapo College Lady Roadrunners were led by sophomore Jayne Manigrasso (Atlantic Highlands, NJ), who posted the tying and game winning goal, helping her team to a 3-2 victory over DeSales University. With the loss, the Bulldogs of DeSales University remain defeated on the season falling to 0-4 while Ramapo posts their first victory of the 2009 season improving to 1-3.

In the opening half, junior Melissa Gilroy (Shohola, PA) took a pass from rookie Alyssa Knappenberger (Lehighton, PA) to put the Bulldogs up, 1-0 just under 16 minutes into the game. Knappenberger assisted on the second DeSale's goal in the half, this time slipping the ball past the Ramapo defense to junior Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilmington, DE) in the 24th minute to gain a two goal advantage.

Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ) would block one shot for Ramapo in the half while Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA) made one save of her own in the first 35 minutes of play for the Bulldogs. DeSales edged Ramapo 3-2 in shots in the half.

The Roadrunners closed the gap in the 45th minute when a shot from rookie Samantha Gardner (Frankford, NJ), was blocked and rebounded out off DelToro, where Amanda Mavrakes (Wayne, NJ) was waiting to slip a pass to Kimberly Raimondi (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) who ripped a shot past DelToro.

Manigrasso knotted the game at 57:02, with her first goal of the year, off a dish from Mavrakes, and just under two minutes later, gave the Roadrunners their first lead of the game with an unassisted goal at 58:43. The score remained until the final horn leaving the Roadrunners with a 3-2 victory in non-conference field hockey action.

Tierney made one more save in the second half, and DelToro added two of her own, while the Roadrunners edged DeSales, 8-1 in shots in the final half.

Ramapo returns to action on September 15th when they host Vassar College at 4:00 PM at the Bradley Center.
