Kings Point, NY: The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team lost to Ramapo College, 7-2 in the ECAC Tournament semifinals today and wrap up their season at 22-14 overall. Ramapo advances to the finals tomorrow at the Stevens Institute of Technology improving to 20-18 overall.
The Roadrunners took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second when
Rob Dimperio singled to second to plate Daniel Mauriello. The Mariners tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the third when Mike Bybee knocked a RBI single through the right side to score Frank Pierson from second.
Ramapo took a one run lead in the top of the fourth on a RBI single through the left side by
Tim Gaven before a 5-1 lead came in the top of the fifth with three runs. The first run of the inning came in on a RBI double to left center by Joe Della Serra. Mauriello drove in the next two runs on a two run homerun to left field.
In the top of the sixth, the Roadrunners plated two more runs to take a 7-1 lead over the Mariners.
Gino Gallagher drove in the first run for Ramapo on a RBI double to center field. Gallagher came around to score the second run of the inning on a RBI double to right center by
Joey Cacchiola.
USMMA plated its second run in the bottom of the seventh on a one out solo homerun to left field, 7-2. The Roadrunners were able to hold off a potential ninth inning scare to go on to the 7-2 victory over the Mariners.
Mike Murano earned the win in seven innings, striking out nine. He improves to 3-2 on the year.
