STOCKTON EDGES RAMAPO, 5-3

Pomona, NJ:  Matt Allen (Salem/Woodstown) stroked four hits and Scott Fisher (Toms River/TR East) pitched a complete game as the duo led Richard Stockton (13-8, 2-5) to a 5-3 victory over Ramapo (10-10, 3-3) in an NJAC game today.

Allen went 4-5 with a double and a solo home run. Fisher allowed three runs, all unearned, on seven hits with six strikeouts for the win. Marc Asta (Jackson/Jackson) also was 3-3 with an RBI for the Ospreys.

David Deredita (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) went 2-5 while Tim Gaven (Union/Union) was 1-3 with two RBI for Ramapo. The Roadrunners jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Gaven singled in two runs.

Allen led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run and Stockton took the lead for good on RBI singles by Asta and Jay Merulla (Logan Twp./Kingsway) in the third inning. The Ospreys increased their lead to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the fourth frame. Dan McGuckin (Sicklerville/Winslow Twp.) led off with a walk and later scored an unearned run. Matt Hunt Marlton/St. Joseph) then singled to bring home Allen who had singled and stolen second base.

Ramapo pulled within 5-3 on an RBI single by Kevin Knox (Matawan/Matawan) in the sixth inning, but the Roadrunners could get no closer. Fisher induced double plays to end the sixth and seventh frames, and he then retired six of the next seven batters to close out the 5-3 Stockton victory.
