KEAN DOWNS RAMAPO

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team fell to NJAC rival Kean University today, 3-11 and 3-13. The Cougars improve to 28-7, 12-3 in the conference while the Roadrunners fall to 16-14 overall, 6-8 in the conference.

The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when junior Joey Cacchiola (Union, NJ) ripped a single to right field to lead off the inning and stole second. Senior Tim Gaven (Union, NJ) knocked Cacchiola in when he singled to left field.

Kean took the lead in the top of the fourth inning when rookie Dylan Laguna (Edison, NJ) reached base on an error and Kyle Walker (Piscataway,NJ) was hit by a pitch. They moved up a base on a double steal before an error at first base allowed both runners to score to put the Cougars up 2-1. They tacked on one run in the fifth as junior Mike Moceri (Yardville, NJ) was hit by a pitch and scored on Laguna's double to left center field. Kean picked up four more runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to go ahead, 8-1.

Joseph Della Serra (Cranford, NJ) got two runs back for Ramapo in the seventh inning, 8-3, when he singled home senior Gino Gallagher (Cedar Grove, NJ) and Gaven who reached on a bunt single and single to left field before they both moved up on a pass ball by Kean.

The Cougars would score three more runs in the eighth inning to take a 11-3 lead as Walker and Laguna had run scoring singles and they held the Roadrunners in the ninth to preserve the win.

Senior Dave Cahoon (Haskell, NJ) falls to 1-1 on the year as he struck out five and walked one. 

For the Cougars, rookie Ryan Zamorsky (Branchburg, NJ) picked up the win as he improved to 5-1 overall. He struck out three and walked one.

In game two Kean took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Walker ripped a two RBI single plating rookie Nick Ramagli (Emerson, NJ) who reached on an error and Moceri who singled. Rookie Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, NJ) then hit a deep sacrifice fly to left field as Laguna scored from third.

Ramapo got one back in the bottom of the second as Della Serra scored on a wild pitch, he singled to left field earlier in the inning. The Roadrunners would come within one run in the fourth inning when Cacchiola and Della Serra singled to start the inning and Joseph Somma (Toms River, NJ) recorded a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up a base. Rookie Dan Mauriello (Monroe, NY) picked up an RBI when he grounded out to first base.

Kean scored six runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning, highlighted by senior Mike Manganiello's two RBI single to left field.

The Roadrunners scored one run in the seventh with two outs when Gaven reached on an error and advanced to second on a balk by the Cougar pitcher and moved to third on an infield single. Senior David Deredita (Clark, NJ) ripped a single to left field to pick up the RBI, 9-3.

Kean would add one run in the seventh and four in the eighth to take a 13-3 lead. Senior Brandon Aich (Sayreville, NJ) picked up the win pitching the final five innings in relief. He struck out two and walked two.

For Ramapo, junior Jack McDonough (Crandford, NJ) took the loss falling to 2-2 on the year. He struck out three and walked two over 5.2 innings of work.
