RUTGERS-CAMDEN DOWNS RAMAPO, 3-2

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team fell to NJAC rival Rutgers Camden today in Mahwah. The Roadrunners fall to 14-13, 5-6 in the conference while the Scarlet Raptors improve to 9-20, 4-8 in the conference.

Ramapo went up 1-0 in the fifth inning when senior Gino Gallagher (Cedar Grove, NJ) ripped a double to left field scoring senior David Deredita (Clark, NJ) who singled to third base to lead off the inning.

Rutgers Camden tied the game in the top of the sixth when senior Dean Straga (Mullica Hill, NJ) doubled home junior Steve Meyers (Millville, NJ) before Ramapo took back the lead in the bottom of the inning. Gallagher ripped a RBI single to center field to score sophomore Michael McGuckin (Bayonne, NJ) who reached on an error earlier in the inning.

With runners at second and third junior Jamie Williams (Vineland, NJ) recorded the game winning hit when he ripped a single in the right field gap plating Straga and junior Greg Hunt (Marlton, NJ) to go up 3-2. Junior Mike Kondrath (Medford Lakes, NJ) picked up his fourth save of the game when he induced a strike out and foul out to end the inning with runners on second and third for Ramapo.

Junior Joe Diamond (Mt. Holly, NJ) improved to 2-1 when he came in relief. He struck out two in 2.1 innings of work. Meyers and Straga eached each had two hits in the game and scored one run.

Deredita was 3-4 with one run scored while Gallagher was 2-4 with two runs scored.

The Roadrunners return to action when then travel to New Jersey City University for a noon double header.
