ROADRUNNERS DOWN OSPREYS 10-9

Mahwah, NJ – The Ramapo College Roadrunners defeated the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College 10-9, in the bottom of the 9th inning, in a tightly contested NJAC match up.

The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to three walks, and a Tim Gaven (Union, NJ) fielder's choice, which plated Joey Cacchiola (Union, NJ) with the game's first run. Stockton came right back in the top of the second, scoring an unearned run with two outs in the frame. Ramapo came right back with a four spot in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a Cacchiola 2RBI single, giving the Roadrunners a 5-1 advantage.

Ramapo held an 8-4 lead going to the top of the sixth, when the Ospreys offense got going again. Richard Stockton put a four spot on the board, all coming with one out in the inning, before Cacchiola came in to get the final two outs of the frame. The Roadrunners answered right back yet again, as Cacchiola led off the bottom of the inning with a triple. One out later Gaven squeezed Cacchiola home, giving Ramapo a slim 9-8 lead.

The game teetered back to Stockton in the top of the eighth, when a Matt Allen RBI single, plating Matt Hunt, tied the game at nine a piece.

This set the stage for a thrilling Roadrunner ninth. Gino Gallagher (Cedar Grove, NJ)  turned the first pitch he saw into a base hit to right field. John McGuckin (Bayonne, NJ) pinch ran for Gallagher, and advanced to second on a Rob Dimperio (Jackson, NJ) sacrifice bunt. Stockton reliever Drew Slickmeyer fell behind Joseph Della Serra (Cranford, NJ) two balls and no strikes before Della Serra lined a single to the right centerfield gap scoring McGuckin with the game winning run.

Cacchiola earned the win with 3.2 innings of effective relief, and also led the Roadrunners at the plate with three hits, four runs, and two RBI. Della Serra, Dimperio, and Dave Deredita (Clark, NJ) each had two hits a piece for Ramapo. Marc Asta and Matt Hunt recorded four and three hits respective for the Ospreys.

With the win, Ramapo improves to 14-12 overall, 4-5 in the NJAC, while Stockton falls to 13-11, 2-8 in the conference. The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow, as they host Rutgers Camden University, first pitch at 3:30pm.
