Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team fell to the Colonials of Western Connecticut State University, 4-3. The Roadrunners even their record to 8-8 overall while the Colonials stand at 8-8.
WestConn got on the took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with runners at the corners junior Dan Baccaro (Berlin, CT) ripped a single to center field plating junior Sam McNeil (Gales Ferry, CT) before junior Dan Amarante (Cheshire, CT) scored on a wild pitch.
The Colonials picked up two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. McNeil doubled home Mike Baccaro (Berlin, CT) who reached on an error earlier in the inning before Amarante singled home McNeil with a hard hit single to center field.
Ramapo came within one run when they score three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Junior
Joey Cacchiola (Union, NJ) singled home senior
David Deredita (Clark, NJ) from second base; he walked to lead off the inning. Senior
Gino Gallagher (Cedar Grove, NJ) advanced to third base on the play and was able to score on a throwing error from the right fielder. Senior
Mike Manges (Glen Rock, NJ) picked up an RBI when he hit into a ground out to third base that scored Cacchiola to cut the lead to 4-3.
Ramapo had the chance to take the lead in the seventh inning when they had the bases loaded with one out and the Colonials were able to induce a foul out and ground out to end the threat.
Junior Steve Bainer (Prospect, CT) picked up the win for WestConn, pitching six innings and struck out four batters while walking two raising his record to 6-2 on the year. Sophomore Billy Armstrong (Moodus, CT) recorded his first save of the season when he entered in the eighth inning with two outs and the tying run on first base.

Joseph DeHart (Toms River, NJ) took the loss for Ramapo, pitching 4.1 innings. He struck out six and walked none, giving up four runs (three earned) and only five hits.
Cacchiola was 3-5 with one RBI and one run scored while Deredita and Gallagher each went 1-4 with one run scored.
For the Colonials, McNeil was 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Amarante was 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Ramapo returns to action when they travel to NJAC rival Rowan University for a 3:30 PM start.
