RAMAPO FALLS TO MANHATTANVILLE, 9-0

Purchase, NY:  The Manhattanville men's tennis team concluded the fall portion of its 2009-10 schedule on the right foot on Thursday afternoon, rolling past Ramapo College by a 9-0 score in non-conference action at the Manhattanville Courts.

The duo of freshmen Karim Mahmoud (Cairo, Egypt) and Andres Rivera (San Juan, Puerto Rico) posted very easy days for Manhattanville, coming out on top of their second-doubles match, 8-3, and both earning painless singles wins. At the fifth flight, Mahmoud needed just two games more than the minimum in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Matt Cacciaguida, while Rivera dropped just one more game in a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Sam Klein at fourth singles.

Sophomore Michael Capozzi (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) had the easiest match of the day for the Valiants at second singles, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Anthony Jelderks. Capozzi and junior Julian Oribe (Buenos Aires, Argentina), who also earned a 6-1, 6-4 first-singles win over Prasanna Fernando, picked up their first point earlier in the afternoon and moved to 3-0 at first doubles with an 8-6 win over Fernando and Jelderks.

Two other Valiants, junior Hugo Robinson (Portland, Maine) and sophomore Dean Tahir (Yonkers, N.Y.), also earned a pair of wins each for Manhattanville to round out the competition. Following an 8-2 win over Cacciaguida and Doug Gromack that improved the pair to 3-0 at third doubles on the year, Tahir defeated third-singles foe Chad Rochman, 6-3, 6-3, while Robinson took down Gromack at sixth singles by a 6-4, 6-3 score.

The Roadrunners return to action when they host East Stroudsburg University on October 12th at 3:30 PM.
