Mahwah. NJ: Junior
Francis Carr (Monroe Twp., NJ) netted two goals in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at the Athletic Center giving the Roadrunners a 2-0 shut out victory over the Lions of The College of New Jersey in men's soccer action.
Ramapo (10-4-2 overall, 3-4-1 NJAC) took a 1-0 lead when a set play just outside the corner of the 18-yard box, with senior
Matt Fleissner (Scotch Plains, NJ) on the ball, gave rookie
Joseph Kane (Delran, NJ) the opportunity to deflect the ball to Carr. Carr tipped the ball past the TCNJ netminder, Chris Kulick (Flemington, NJ), to take the 1-0 lead. The goal came with just ten seconds to play in the half which held into the intermission.
The Lions edged the Roadrunners 7-5 in shots in the first 45 minutes, while also holding a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper
Ian Tighe (Wyckoff, NJ) made three saves in the half and Kulick blocked just one.
Just over four minutes into the second half, rookie
Rob Santaniello (Oakland, NJ), laid the ball back to Kane again, who put the ball in the box, which found Carr's head for a two goal Roadrunner lead. Tighe blocked eight shots for Ramapo in the second half, and sophomore
Robert Nalesnik (Wayne, NJ) cleared a ball off the goal line, holding the 2-0 shut out. Kulick made just one second half save with the one goal against in the half.
Again TCNJ (6-5-4 overall, 4-2-2 NJAC) out shot Ramapo in the second half, 10-4, and held a 6-1 edge in corners.
The shut out was Tighe's 7th of the season, moving him into 1st place on the all-time leaders list for complete shut outs in a season.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Kean University for a 7:30 PM kick off, while the Lions face off with Rutgers Newark on Wednesday evening, home at 7:00 PM.
