Mahwah, NJ: Senior defender
Ryan Lahey (Middletown, NJ) scored the game-winning goal in the 109th minute of play leading the Roadrunners to a men's soccer NJAC, 1-0 win, over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 5-3 overall, 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while Rutgers Newark falls to 6-3 overall, 0-1 in the conference.
The Roadrunners and the Scarlet Raiders played 90 minutes of scoreless soccer forcing golden goal overtime at the Athletic Center in Mahwah. After the first ten minutes, the score remained knotted forcing a second overtime period. With just one minute and 46 seconds left on the clock, Lahey connected a header off a free kick by rookie
Francis Carr (Monroe Twp., NJ), scoring his first goal of the 2008 season. The assist was Carr's first of the year.
Junior goalkeeper
Ian Tighe (Wyckoff, NJ) made three saves in the first 45 minutes, two more in the second half, and played the first OT period untested, before adding one save in the second overtime, totaling six in the game. Tighe improves to 5-2 on the year earning his fourth shut out.
Sophomore Kyle Perdelwitz (West Orange, NJ) played the full game in front of the net for Rutgers Newark making eight saves in the game.
Ramapo took 15 shots, nine on goal, in the game while the Scarlet Raiders recorded 13 shots with eight on net.
Prior to the start of the game, Dr. Peter P. Mercer, helped the Roadrunners kick off the 2008 New Jersey Athletic Conference season with a ceremonial kick-off.
